Description
Kilora-D contains desloratadine a second-generation antihistamine that works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical that is released in response to an allergic reaction. Histamine is responsible for the symptoms of allergy, such as sneezing, runny nose, itching, and nasal congestion. By blocking the action of histamine, desloratadine helps to relieve these symptoms. These tablets are commonly used to treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria. They provide long-lasting relief from allergy symptoms, without causing drowsiness or sedation. Compared to first-generation antihistamines, desloratadine is less likely to cause side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, and difficulty urinating. Additionally, desloratadine can be safely used by most people, including children and elderly patients. Desloratadine tablets are generally well-tolerated, but like all medications, they can cause side effects. Common side effects include headache, dry mouth, fatigue, and nausea. In rare cases, desloratadine can cause serious allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis, which is a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. Patients who experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling of the face or throat, should seek emergency medical attention. These tablets are available in different strengths, and the dosage depends on the patient’s age, weight, and medical condition. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by the manufacturer or the doctor. In general, the recommended dosage for adults and children over 12 years of age is 5 mg once a day, with or without food. Children between 6 and 11 years of age can take 2.5 mg once a day, and children between 1 and 5 years of age can take 1.25 mg once a day. Desloratadine is not recommended for children under 1 year of age. These tablets should not be taken by patients who have a history of allergic reactions to desloratadine or any other antihistamine. Patients with liver or kidney disease should use desloratadine with caution, as it may take longer for the body to eliminate the medication. It is important to inform the doctor of any existing medical conditions or medication before taking desloratadine tablets. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking desloratadine, as its safety during pregnancy and lactation is not yet fully established. Finally, desloratadine may interact with other medications, so patients should inform the doctor of all the medications they are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications.
